  • 1960 Porsche 356B Coupe – Single Owner for 40 years

    • 45,050 mi
    • 4-speed manual
    $85,356
The 356 was Porsche’s first production sports car and the vehicle that introduced the Porsche name to the world. Built between 1948 and 1965, the 356 was split into 4 different variations over its 17 year run. Starting with simply the 356 – also known as a “Pre-A,” it was followed up by the 356 A, 356 B and 356 C – all with different sub-variations within those generations. Enthusiasts all have their preference for which 356 was the best, with some liking the lightweight, de-contented Pre-A cars, while others prefer the later B or Cs, for their added refinement and additional power. This 1960 356 is from the “B” series, and is finished in a striking color combination of silver over a blue interior. Under the care of a single owner for the last 40 years, this car is a great driver and benefits from servicing at Dobson Stuttgart over the last handful of years. As a 356 B, the design was altered with a slightly flatter front end design, revised bumpers, and new taillights along with a host of other differences, aimed at meeting American regulations. The interior is beautifully simple, with a pair of blue bucket seats up front and two seats in the rear. The dash pad is the same blue as the seats, while the dash matches the car’s exterior. Slide behind the large 3-spoke steering wheel and you are met by an attractive set of green-on-black gauges that are reminiscent of early 911 dials with a central tachometer, speedometer to the right and combination fuel level and oil temperature gauge to the left. An AM/FM stereo is fitted in-dash and sound comes from a set of upgraded Sony speakers placed near the front foot wells. Powering this 356 is a 1.6-liter air cooled flat 4. According to the owner, it was rebuilt in about 2010 by Morris Brothers in Salt Lake City. It produces approximately 60 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque. Breathing through a pair of Zenith downdraft carburetors, this engine runs and drives wonderfully and provides plenty of power to cruise at the speed of modern traffic. Power is then sent through a 4-speed manual transaxle to the rear wheels. Under the car, a fresh set of Koni shock absorbers provide a sporting ride that isn’t punishing on bumpy roads. The 356 is a crucial piece of Porsche history and remains one of the nicest driving and most solidly built classic cars out there. This example is a great driver that runs wonderfully and would make the perfect classic for rallies and touring. Key Features

Of Porsche’s many claims to fame, one of the most significant is their early adoption of turbocharging. Although they weren’t the first, they quickly saw the potential in forced induction and via its racing and road cars, made significant strides in perfecting the technology. In 2015, Porsche made what might be considered their biggest investment in turbocharging yet, converting every 911 model aside from the GT3 to forced induction. Known as the 991.2, this decision was initially met with criticism, but as soon as people got behind the wheel of these new Carreras, it became clear why they made the shift. Power was now available throughout the rev-range with maximum torque available just off idle, which made the car faster around town and far more versatile.

This 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 was sold new in Los Angeles, California and has been a lifelong west coast car, coming to the Seattle area in 2019 with its third owner. Finished in black over black leather, this 911 shows 78,885 miles and has been serviced by main dealers and well respected independent service facilities since new. The 991.2 features revised styling on the front and rear fascias and a new engine lid grille, which helps tip off the car’s turbocharged powerplant. This example is outfitted with features including Xenon dynamic cornering headlights, auto dimming mirrors, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) along with front and rear ParkAssist with a reversing camera.

The interior is wrapped in black leather and also received a minor update with the 2015 refresh – most notably, a more attractive and comfortable 3-spoke steering wheel. This example was ordered with 14-way power sport seats that are heated, and a premium stereo system was also fitted.

Powering the Carrera is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 that produces 365 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. This flat torque curve makes for remarkable in-gear acceleration and is perfect for the enthusiast who wants a daily driver sports car. When fitted with the 7-speed PDK double clutch gearbox like this car, the Carrera is capable of 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a top speed in excess of 180 mph – previously this sort of performance would be 911 Turbo territory, so being able to access it from behind the wheel of a Carrera is thrilling.

Although these days a 911 Cabriolet is a common sight on the roads, it took nearly twenty years after the 911’s debut for Porsche to produce one. With the threat of convertibles being banned looming in the mid-1960s, Porsche took a different path for its customers to enjoy open air motoring. They developed a removable roof panel known as the “Targa” top which offered a similar sensation to top-down driving, but with a sturdy structure behind the occupants in case of a rollover. This became one of the brand’s most popular models and has evolved along with the rest of the 911 range. With the introduction of the 993 Targa, Porsche did away with the removable panel, instead fitting the 911 with a large panoramic glass roof which had a power retracting feature, making it so even when the roof was in place, it felt like you were out in the open. This carried through all the way to the 997-generation car and is one of the least common variants of each respective era.

This 2009 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is a stunning example finished in the desirable shade of Macadamia Metallic, over a Sand Beige leather interior. As a 2009, this is the first of the “997.2” generation which means it was built with the coveted DFI engine, and instead of the earlier Tiptronic gearbox, it received a 7-speed PDK dual clutch unit. At the time of cataloging, the car shows 72,XXX miles and is believed to have been under the care of just two owners from new. Initially sold through Porsche of Salt Lake City, the car has lived in Utah, and was imported to Canada where it was based in both Edmonton, AB and Victoria, BC, before coming to Washington in 2021. The unique metallic brown color was a rarely selected choice on the 997 but matches the shape incredibly well and is complimented on the exterior by a set of 19” Carrera II wheels and the 4S signature full-width rear brakelight.

On the interior, the Sand Beige leather seats are heated and power adjustable in front, and an upgraded Sport Design steering wheel has been fitted while the original 3-spoke unit is included. From the factory, this car came very well equipped with features like the Sport Chrono Plus Package, a Bose sound system, automatic climate control, Park Assist and the Porsche Communication Management head unit which received updated software in 2022.

Powering this Targa 4S is a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-6 with direct fuel injection. Thanks to the VarioCam Plus system, these engines produce 385 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which, when connected to the 7-speed PDK, can run from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of nearly 180 mph. The engine received new spark plugs and ignition coils in 2023 and a fresh oil service earlier this year. As a 4S, this car is fitted with all-wheel drive, meaning that it is a great all weather sportscar and could easily be used as a daily driver for the whole year in the Pacific Northwest.
