2009 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Targa

Although these days a 911 Cabriolet is a common sight on the roads, it took nearly twenty years after the 911’s debut for Porsche to produce one. With the threat of convertibles being banned looming in the mid-1960s, Porsche took a different path for its customers to enjoy open air motoring. They developed a removable roof panel known as the “Targa” top which offered a similar sensation to top-down driving, but with a sturdy structure behind the occupants in case of a rollover. This became one of the brand’s most popular models and has evolved along with the rest of the 911 range. With the introduction of the 993 Targa, Porsche did away with the removable panel, instead fitting the 911 with a large panoramic glass roof which had a power retracting feature, making it so even when the roof was in place, it felt like you were out in the open. This carried through all the way to the 997 generation car and is one of the least common variants of each respective era.

This 2009 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is finished in a stunning and rare Carrera White over Carrera Red extended leather color combination. Showing 82,350 miles at the time of cataloging, this first-year 997.2 Targa 4S is the ultimate all-weather sports car. As a 4S, this car benefits from the 997’s stunning wide rear bodywork, as well as the updated LED taillights which provide excellent contrast against the white exterior. The car sits on a set of 19” Turbo I wheels which have just recently been refinished and wrapped in summer tires, complimented by a second set of wheels with winter tires.

The stunning red interior is an automatic conversation piece and features Porsche’s comfortable 18-way adjustable power sport seats in front. Although originally equipped with the standard 3-spoke 997 steering wheel with thumb controls for the PDK gearbox, this car has recently been fitted with a Sport Design 3-spoke wheel with shift paddles that both looks and feels much better in the hands.

Powering this Targa 4S is a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-6 with direct fuel injection. Thanks to the VarioCam Plus system, these engines produce 385 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque which, when connected to the 7-speed PDK, can run from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of nearly 180 mph. As a 4S, this car is fitted with all-wheel drive, meaning that it is a great all weather sportscar and could easily be used as a daily driver for the whole year in the Pacific Northwest.
