1988 Porsche 928 S4 Coupe
- 65,800 mi
- 4-Speed Automatic
3101 W. Commodore Way$24,928The Porsche 911 has long been the brand’s halo car, but in the 1970s, there were talks of replacing the rear-engined, air cooled coupe with something aimed at a more upscale audience. What Porsche engineers came up with was a futuristic looking 2+2 coupe with a big V8 up front and a fantastically luxurious interior, known as the 928. Although it was quickly decided that the 928 would not replace the 911, it was far enough along that Porsche pressed it into production as a grand touring counterpart to the more sport-oriented 911. Never seriously intended for competition use, the 928 was designed to coddle the occupants in luxurious comfort while cruising across countries at great speed. The water-cooled V8 up front offered gobs of low-down torque and was frequently paired with a Mercedes-sourced automatic gearbox which made the car a perfect daily driver for the wealthy enthusiast. Over the model’s 18-year production run, it went through numerous revisions that ultimately moved it even further into the fast grand touring market. Although it is hotly contested what the best variants are, the later cars with dual overhead cams and more extreme aero packages are considered some of the best. This 1989 Porsche 928 S4 is from the second to last generation of the car, and features many of the desirable updates found in the final GTS models, for a fraction of the price. This is a lifelong California car that spent the majority of its life in the San Francisco Bay Area. Finished in black over tan, the car currently shows 65,726 miles and is being offered with a clean CarFax. The S4 is fitted with a 5.0-liter DOHC V8 that produces 316 horsepower, which is sent through a 4-speed automatic transaxle to the rear wheels. With a top speed in excess of 160 mph, this car is known for feeling remarkably planted thanks to its advanced front splitter, rear spoiler and unique Weissach Axle that offers a “passive rear wheel steering system” that is designed to increase stability. The overall condition of this car is remarkable and, although not a concours show car, would make an exceptional usable classic. Owing to the care that this car saw throughout its life, the original Blaupunkt radio with cassette player remains in the dashboard and the supple tan leather is in great condition for the age. With a base price of more than $65,000 in 1988 – or nearly $200,000 in today’s money – it truly was a car built for a captain of industry, and still feels that way behind the wheel today. 1998 Porsche “Early” 996 Coupe
- 158,000 mi
- 6-speed manual
3101 W. Commodore WaySOLDThe Porsche 996 was the company’s first foray into water cooling the 911. Although this was met with some resistance by the Porsche faithful, it was the only way for the brand to continue advancing everyone’s favorite rear engined sports car, while still staying on the right side of ever tightening emissions regulations. As is almost always the case with Porsche, all it took was one drive to realize that the 996 was a far more sophisticated and refined car than the 993 it replaced and was the superior car for a combination of fast driving and daily use. For years, the 996 chassis cars became quite inexpensive, being seen as inferior to the 997 that succeeded it and without the character of the 993 that it replaced, but over the past few years, enthusiasts have come around to the fact that the 996 is truly an outstanding driver’s car that deserves a second look.
This 1998 Porsche 996 911 is finished in the classic shade of Arctic Silver over a black leather interior. Fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission, this 911 was recently treated to a complete engine rebuild while under our care at Dobson Stuttgart. Showing 158,784 miles at the time of writing, this 996 has been mechanically brought back to a very high standard with an updated IMS bearing, in an effort to make it a solid drivers car. With a build date of January 30th 1998, this 996 is one of the earliest builds from the 996 generation and was assembled alongside the final 993s at the Porsche factory. These early cars have become quite sought after given they were built before Porsche moved to drive-by-wire, with the accelerator still having a cable attachment for a more visceral feel. In addition, this means that the car does not have traction control or stability management, which makes for a very involving drive. It has been said that the early 996s were built to a higher standard and feel better put together than some of the later cars when production was going at full speed and this car does feel quite nice from behind the wheel.
The exterior has been modified slightly with a European-style 996.1 GT3 front bumper cover, and the wheels look to be TSWs with satin black centers and brushed lips. These wheels are wrapped in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires, with plenty of life left in them. Although this 996 is not cosmetically perfect, with some scratches and rock chips on the front bumper, it is a great opportunity to get into a 911 at a reasonable price that you can drive and enjoy without worry. If you are looking for a first entry into the world of Porsche or would like a great driving example that you can park alongside your show car, this 996 Carrera 2 is dialed in and ready to enjoy.

2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S Coupe
- 105,855 mi
- 6-speed manual
3101 W. Commodore WaySOLDFor many Porsche enthusiasts, the 997 generation was the last great 911. It offers most of the comfort you could expect in a modern car, but was built before cars began to grow substantially in size. Obviously Porsche has made plenty of great 911s since the 997, but it holds a special place in the brand’s history, and conveniently, the 997 is also one of the most attainable 911s on sale today. This was the first variant of the 911 where Porsche began offering a tremendous number of variants for buyers to choose from, but in the car’s first year on sale- 2005 – it was only offered in a few configurations. Before the Turbo and GT3 debuted, if you wanted to get the highest performing 997, you would opt for the Carrera S. With a punched-out 3.8-liter flat 6 and wider rear track, the Carrera S is still widely considered to be one of the great driver’s cars from the era and offers an exceptional blend of performance and modern-day usability.
This 2005 Carrera S was ordered by somebody who loved performance driving, which is evident by the option boxes ticked at the dealership. Showing 105,854 miles, it is finished in Lapis Blue Metallic, and fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission with the factory short-shifter, as well as the very rarely ordered Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCBs). In 2005, these brakes alone added nearly $10,000 to the cost of your 911 and had only been available on the highest-performing 996s in the previous generation. The car was also optioned with the Bose High-End Sound package and leather wrapped sport seats.
Under prior ownership, this Carrera S was treated to a host of upgrades that make it look outstanding and provide even greater driving enjoyment. The most immediately noticeable upgrades are the exterior aero kit which includes a lower front valance and large fixed rear spoiler, as well as a set of multi-piece BBS LM wheels. Mechanically, a set of AWE headers along with an AWE cat back exhaust have been fitted and the car rides on BC Racing Coilovers. Function First engine mounts help the car put the power to the ground and numeric shift cables give it a very positive shift feel. The interior has been upgraded as well with Alcantara on the steering wheel, shift knob and shift boot, as well as a Pioneer head unit with Apple CarPlay capabilities.
This 997 Carrera S is a great car for the enthusiast looking to step into their first 911, or somebody coming out of a classic looking for air conditioning and modern performance. If you want to see the car in person or learn more, please contact us at Dobson Stuttgart.
