2017 Porsche 991 Carrera Coupe
Of Porsche’s many claims to fame, one of the most significant is their early adoption of turbocharging. Although they weren’t the first, they quickly saw the potential in forced induction and via its racing and road cars, made significant strides in perfecting the technology. In 2015, Porsche made what might be considered their biggest investment in turbocharging yet, converting every 911 model aside from the GT3 to forced induction. Known as the 991.2, this decision was initially met with criticism, but as soon as people got behind the wheel of these new Carreras, it became clear why they made the shift. Power was now available throughout the rev-range with maximum torque available just off idle, which made the car faster around town and far more versatile.
This 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 was sold new in Los Angeles, California and has been a lifelong west coast car, coming to the Seattle area in 2019 with its third owner. Finished in black over black leather, this 911 shows 78,885 miles and has been serviced by main dealers and well respected independent service facilities since new. The 991.2 features revised styling on the front and rear fascias and a new engine lid grille, which helps tip off the car’s turbocharged powerplant. This example is outfitted with features including Xenon dynamic cornering headlights, auto dimming mirrors, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) along with front and rear ParkAssist with a reversing camera.
The interior is wrapped in black leather and also received a minor update with the 2015 refresh – most notably, a more attractive and comfortable 3-spoke steering wheel. This example was ordered with 14-way power sport seats that are heated, and a premium stereo system was also fitted.
Powering the Carrera is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-6 that produces 365 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. This flat torque curve makes for remarkable in-gear acceleration and is perfect for the enthusiast who wants a daily driver sports car. When fitted with the 7-speed PDK double clutch gearbox like this car, the Carrera is capable of 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a top speed in excess of 180 mph – previously this sort of performance would be 911 Turbo territory, so being able to access it from behind the wheel of a Carrera is thrilling.
