2002 Porsche Boxster S

In the early-1990s, Porsche was in rather dire financial straits. Sales had been slow due to an economic downturn and manufacturing prices were extremely high due to outdated techniques at the factory. The brand knew that if it was going to survive, it would need a lower priced car that they could produce in volume, that would also share parts with the forthcoming 911. The Porsche Boxster concept debuted at the 1993 North American International Auto Show and it caused a massive stir. With a name derived from combining Boxer – a nickname for the flat engine – and Roadster – the only bodystyle the car would be offered in, the production Boxster launched in 1996 with a design that was not largely changed from the original concept. The reception upon its release was just as enthusiastic as when the concept was first shown and it quickly turned Porsche’s fortunes around thanks to its simpler production methods and lower base price.

This 2002 Porsche 986 Boxster S is the perfect entry point to Porsche ownership for an enthusiast who has always wanted a car from the famed German manufacturer. Finished in beautiful and rare Cobalt Blue Metallic, this Boxster S shows just over 86,000 miles and was optioned with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The “S” received numerous updates over the standard Boxster including an extra 700cc of displacement (totalling 3.2 liters), the 6th gear in the transmission, twin-exit exhausts, stiffer anti-roll bars, red brake calipers white faced gauges and more. The interior on this car is wrapped in Graphite Gray partial leather, and a Bose high-end stereo is fitted from the factory. The clean CarFax shows 3 owners from new and this car received a recent servicing at Dobson Stuttgart that included a full set of new Continental Extreme Contact Tires and a fresh convertible top. The 986 generation Boxster is a tremendously underrated car from the driver’s seat, offering lively steering, neutral handling and enough power to have fun, without getting yourself into serious trouble. Offered at an extremely appealing price, this Boxster S is a great first Porsche, or an addition to your Porsche collection that you won’t have qualms about using every day.
