1987 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet

The “Impact-Bumper” era of Porsche 911 spanned from 1974 until 1989 and is one of the most iconic generations of the car. From that entire spread of years, most people consider the cars built between 1987 and 1989 to be the best – they were the most powerful, typically the best equipped and most importantly, were fitted with the desirable G50 gearbox. Replacing the long-lived 915 gearbox that came before it, the G50 did away with the notoriously vague shifting of the earlier cars and in its place, put a much more conventional feeling transmission that transformed the cars, making them both more fun to drive fast and easier to wheel around town every day.

This 1987 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a particularly special example as it shows just 29,975 miles at the time of cataloging and has been under long-term ownership. Finished in Black over Black, this car’s production was completed late-September 1986, and was delivered to the first owner in late November the same year. After just over 18 months, the car was purchased by the consignor in April of 1988, and has stayed in their care ever since. Always kept in the Bellevue, WA area, CarFax shows only a few hundred miles added to the car between bi-annual emissions tests, and a few entries for service work carried out by Dobson Stuttgart beginning in 2022. From the factory, this 911 came equipped with Fuchs wheels with black centers and polished lips, as well as cruise control and sport-tuned shock absorbers. Given the minimal usage over the years, this car remains in stunning original condition with the only notable upgrades being a Panasonic CD head unit and modern tires. Under our care in the service department, the car received a fairly standard list of maintenance items that most cars of this age would require including a new fuel filter, brake fluid flush, fuel system cleaning and new struts for the rear engine lid. Finding a late Impact Bumper Carrera with such low miles and essentially one owner, is a real rarity these days. When you see this car in person, it really does live up to the hype, and if someone didn’t know, you would think the condition was in line with a car that was maybe two years old, rather than 37.
