1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

In 1984, the Porsche 911 moved from the beloved “SC” variant to being badged as simply the “Carrera.” Along with a change in name, the 911 received an additional 200cc of displacement, as well as a change from Bosch CIS to a far more advanced Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection system. These changes made for a boost of nearly 30 horsepower over the previous model, and were known to be rock solid from a reliability standpoint, and smoother running than the older cars as well. In light of this, it should be no surprise that the 3.2 Carreras built from 1984 until 1989 stand as some of the most beloved 911s of all time and collector values have been extremely strong recently as a result.

This 1986 911 Carrera coupe is a beautiful example of this sought-after model and is finished in a very unique shade of Moss Green Metallic. At the time that these 911s were being produced, more standard colors like black, white and red were really in style, while the numerous greens and blues Porsche offered at the time were rarely selected. With the recent increase in interest surrounding unique colored classic 911s, those few cars painted in more unconventional shades have become quite sought after. CarFax shows that this car spent the early part of its life in Kansas, where it lived until 1996, at which point it was brought to Seattle, where it has stayed since. Current mileage is just over 133,750 which is believed to be original. From the factory, this car was very nicely set up with a thicker diameter sports steering wheel that is paired with a 30mm hub extender – a great option for one of these cars which weren’t built with an adjustable column. Additionally, a short shifter gives a positive shift feel and is a welcome addition to the 915 gearbox in this example. Factory fitted Fuchs are also seen on this car with black faces, as are cruise control and a power sunroof.

We have been servicing this car at Dobson Stuttgart for the last three years, during which time it has only been driven a few hundred miles. That being said, since 2021, we have replaced front and rear brake hoses and done a fluid flush, replaced the ignition coil, adjusted the wheel bearings, replaced drive and serpentine belts, balanced the tires and performed numerous oil changes. This car has complete service records and is currently in excellent condition and would make a perfect driver for an enthusiast looking to get into a unique and attractive air-cooled 911.
