1975 BMW 3.0CSi Coupe

The BMW E9 is one of the brand’s most stunning designs – with its massive greenhouse and subtle curves, it sits towards the top of the list of desirable BMWs. In 1971, BMW upgraded the 2800CS to the 3.0CS and 3.0CSi. Now powered by the company’s large 3.0-liter inline 6, the 3.0 coupe could be ordered in CS trim with carburetors, or CSi, with cutting edge Bosch electronic fuel injection. Producing an additional 20 horsepower over the CS for a total of 200, the injected CSi offered fast, luxurious long-distance cruising and looked incredible doing it.

This 1975 BMW 3.0 CSi has been comprehensively restored to an extremely high standard. Finished in Fjord Blue over tan leather, to call the car immaculate almost feels like it is underselling it. Although 1975 cars in the United States were fitted with the less-than attractive “diving board” bumpers, this car has been retrofitted with the slimmer European style units that work perfectly with the overall design of the car. Another thing that draws the eye is the gorgeous set of Alpina 21-spoke wheels which are a classic and very sought-after upgrade for this model.

For anybody familiar with BMW’s big coupes from the 80s and 90s, the interior of this car will have some similarities to the later 6 and 8 series cars. A pair of large, comfortable bucket seats up front, with two nicely sculpted seats in the rear. On this example, the tan leather is essentially immaculate and looks to have barely been sat in since completing the restoration. Slide behind the 3-spoke Nardi wood and metal steering wheel and you are met by white-on-black gauges, inset in a beautiful wood dashboard.

Open the front-hinged hood and you will see the 3.0-liter M30 inline-6. The M30 was an engine that could be found in BMWs for more than 20 years, appearing in its final car in 1995. You can tell this is a CSi thanks to the unique 6-runner intake and throttle position sensor by the air box. Producing 200 horsepower, this engine sent power through a 4-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. The overall condition of the engine bay on this car is remarkable and has clearly been professionally finished to show-car standards.

In 1975, BMW produced just 555 3.0 CSi cars, marking its lowest production year and the final year of the model entirely. This example comes with a sizable restoration binder showing all of the work completed along with invoices, proving how comprehensively the car has been refinished.
