1971 Volvo 142E 4-Speed
The 1971 Volvo 142E was purchased by Import Parts Distributing (IPD) founder Richard Gordon in mid-1972 and was used as a development and test vehicle for 140-series models. The body is finished in white, and power is supplied by a modified 2,130cc B20 inline-four mated to an M41 four-speed manual transmission and an electrically actuated overdrive unit. Equipment includes a black leather interior, 15″ alloy wheels, Bilstein shocks, lowering springs, four-wheel disc brakes, a glass sunroof, a custom exhaust system, a front spoiler, a Volvo Rallye gauge cluster, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo. The car remained under Gordon’s care until March 1999, and it was featured on BaT in October 2015, sold on BaT in October 2018, and acquired by the current owner in a November 2021 BaT Auction from the selling dealer. This 142E is now offered on consignment with manufacturer’s literature, service records, a mileage logbook, assorted literature including a 1974 Road & Track feature, and an Oregon title.
