1971 Volvo 142E 4-Speed

The 1971 Volvo 142E was purchased by Import Parts Distributing (IPD) founder Richard Gordon in mid-1972 and was used as a development and test vehicle for 140-series models. The body is finished in white, and power is supplied by a modified 2,130cc B20 inline-four mated to an M41 four-speed manual transmission and an electrically actuated overdrive unit. Equipment includes a black leather interior, 15″ alloy wheels, Bilstein shocks, lowering springs, four-wheel disc brakes, a glass sunroof, a custom exhaust system, a front spoiler, a Volvo Rallye gauge cluster, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM stereo. The car remained under Gordon’s care until March 1999, and it was featured on BaT in October 2015sold on BaT in October 2018, and acquired by the current owner in a November 2021 BaT Auction from the selling dealer. This 142E is now offered on consignment with manufacturer’s literature, service records, a mileage logbook, assorted literature including a 1974 Road & Track feature, and an Oregon title.
